Preserving Goodness
Extending shelf-life by preserving and dehydrating food.
The initiative harnesses the wisdom of community seniors and preserves alike keen to pass on preserving techniques to our younger hill’s generation.
About Preserving Goodness
Our Preserving Goodness initiative is an adjunct to the free food program capturing end of life produce from landfill. Our program is continually offered ad hoc produce and excess sessional product. This produce is transformed into preserves or dehydrated offering a further shelf-life. The initiative harnesses the wisdom of community seniors and preserves alike keen to pass on preserving techniques to our younger hill’s generation.
To date, Preserving Goodness’s achievements include everything from jams, compotes, sauces, chutneys, lemon curd, all skillfully preserved. Excess milk close to use by dates have been transformed into cheese.
A special emphasis has been placed on perfecting our dehydration methods to capture further produce using fruit and vegetables to create sun dried tomatoes, vegetable, and banana chips.
Many children within our community identify with a variety of food allergies and intolerances. Our dehydrated product offers a sugar free and safe alternative to healthy treat eating whilst incorporating innovation to zero waste. All products are shared with the community and offered to care boxes.
